West Ham v Bournemouth Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 14, 2018
London Stadium - Premier League
West Ham look to bounce back from the heaviest defeat of match day one, as they welcome Bournemouth to the London Stadium on Saturday. The Cherries kicked of their campaign in style, with a comfortable win over Cardiff, but may face a trickier game on Saturday.
The last meeting between these two sides played out to a 1-1 draw, with the game's two goals coming within two minutes of each other. Ryan Fraser opened the scoring for the visitors, before Javier Hernandez equalised for West Ham.
With three key players in Manuel Lanzini, Winston Reid and Andy Carroll out injured, Manuel Pellegrini does not have the luxury of slowly introducing his new singings. Instead, the manager is likely to stick with new boys Fabian Balubuena, whilst Andriy Yarmolenko will battle for a start against Felipe Anderson on the wing.
Eddie Howe is without Junior Stanislas and new signing Jefferson Lerma, but otherwise has a fit squad to select from. The manager was introduced just one new player in his side's win over Cardiff, with David Brooks struggling to impose himself, and being replaced by Simon Francis. Whether or not Howe sticks with the young winger for this weekend's game remains to be seen.
West Ham v Cardiff Preview and Predictions
Sitting bottom of the Premier League with one game played, West Ham paid the price for a lack of organisation against the most potent front line in English football. This however, is hardly a surprise, given that the combination of injuries and departures meant that Pellegrini had to start five new signings. As high quality as the new boys are, it is a big ask for them to play Liverpool in their first game for the club.
Against Bournemouth, Hammers fans will get a more accurate glimpse of what the new signings bring to the club, with the likes of Anderson and Yarmolenko able to play more offensively. Eddie Howe's side will likely be a very different test from playing Liverpool, but not one to be dismissed.
The Cherries brushed their opponents aside on Saturday, allowing Cardiff just 37% possession and one shot on target, marking their best ever Premier League opening day result. Bournemouth were the second least active club in the transfer market, but this is nothing new for Howe's side, which have earned their success through organisation and getting the most out of their players. Furthermore, if they are able to keep the attacking trio of Joshua King, Jermaine Defoe and Callum Wilson fit, they should have more than enough firepower to test the likes of West Ham.
Saturday's game throws up an interesting contest, as although West Ham are the home team, with a number of players out to prove themselves, Bournemouth are the picture of stability, with the current longest reigning Premier League manager. Moreover, despite being the underdogs, the Cherries will look to play a possession based game, keeping the ball clear of West Ham's danger-men. If Pellegrini's side are able to take the initiative however, they have the talent to punish the south-coast side.
Marko Arnautovic to score first at 3/2
The converted-winger offered the best of West Ham's threat on Saturday, and should start again against Bournemouth.
Over 2.5 goals at 9/5
Neither side has the most reliable defence so we may see a few goals in this one.
