West Ham v Brighton Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 30, 2018
London Stadium - Premier League
Manuel Pellegrini's in form West Ham kick off 2019 with a home tie against Chris Hughton's Brighton at the London Stadium.
Brighton won 1-0 at home in their most recent meeting with West Ham, with veteran striker Glenn Murray netting the winner at the AMEX Stadium.
The Seagulls have an excellent record against Pellegrini's side, winning all three encounters with them as a Premier League side.
West Ham have an ever growing injury list, however Pellegrini should be boosted by some key returns for this clash. Pablo Zabaleta, Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic should all be in line to return, however Carlos Sanchez, Fabien Balbuena, Jack Wilshere, Ryan Fredricks, Andriy Yarmolenko, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini are all still out.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton only has one absentee through injury for the trip to the capital, with midfielder Jose Izquierdo sidelined with a knee problem. However he is also set to be without goal keeper Mat Ryan and attacker Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who are away on Asian Cup duty with their national sides.
West Ham v Brighton Predictions and Preview
West Ham head into this game on the back of a strong run of five wins in their last six Premier League games, despite an ongoing injury crisis at the club. Pellegrini has put his stamp on this squad, and it is the most consistent West Ham side for some time, with four wins in their last six home games.
Brighton ended 2018 with a home win against Everton, following on from an impressive draw against Arsenal on Boxing Day,and Hughton will be pleased with this consistency. However the concern ahead of this tie is their away form, with four defeats in their last five games on the road, at the back end of the calendar year.
The Hammers are flying at the moment, and that should extend into the early part of 2019, and a home win looks to be the way to go here - priced at 10/11. Defensively there are still issues for Pellegrini and his side, with just three Premier League clean sheets so far this season, and Brighton do possess a goal threat through Murray and Co.
This could be a fairly open game, with both sides in decent form, and a BTTS bet comes in at 3/4.
West Ham to win 2-1 at 8/1
The Hammers have won themselves a few more fans in recent weeks, as they have pushed up the Premier League table as 2018 draws to a close. Brighton have got back on track of late, but their away form means their question marks over whether they can go all out for a win here.
Felipe Anderson to score first at 6/1
Anderson has been a shining light for West Ham this season, with eight goals already, despite playing the majority of his football out wide. He scored twice in the 2-1 win over Southampton, and West Ham have not lost in any game he has scored so far this season.
