West Ham v Norwich Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
August 27, 2019
London Stadium - Premier League
After claiming their first victory of the season away to Watford last weekend, West Ham United welcome newly-promoted Norwich City to the London Stadium. The Canaries have been a breath of fresh air since returning to the top flight, and the away fans will be hopeful of a result here.
These teams last played when they were in the Premier League together back in 2015/16. Both matches that season finished 2-2, while the three meetings before that all saw home wins. That run stretches back to 2013 though, so we can’t read too much into it ahead of this game.
Manuel Pellegrini is set to be without two players due to knee injuries. Javier Hernandez only has a knock and could still play, while Winston Reid’s issue is more serious after missing most of last season. New signing Sebastien Haller is set to keep his place up front after opening his Hammers account with a match-winning brace last weekend.
Teemu Pukki will lead the line for the visitors after taking to the Premier League like a duck to water, with five goals and an assist in his first three appearances of the season. Daniel Farke could have Josip Drmic, Adam Idah, Christoph Zimmermann and Ibrahim Amadou all available after a range of injuries.
West Ham v Norwich Preview and Predictions
The fixture list has hardly been kind to Norwich on their return to the top table of English football, but the Canaries have been dining like kings so far. They blew Newcastle away to get their first victory in their second game, before pushing Chelsea all the way last weekend.
It’s not exactly a vintage Chelsea side - or at least, not yet - but Norwich competed brilliantly against Frank Lampard’s young team, and were unfortunate to come away with a 3-2 defeat. Star man Teemu Pukki scored one and set up the other, and with him in the line-up an on fire right now, the visitors are in with a chance in this game.
West Ham meanwhile followed up their draw away to Brighton with a 3-1 victory at Watford on Saturday. It’s a great time to play the Hornets who’ve made an awful start to the season, but the Irons were clinical and in Sebastien Haller, it looks as though Pellegrini has chosen wisely in his attempt to replace departed talisman Marko Arnautovic.
With the London Stadium feeling more like home all the time, West Ham are the even money favourites to make it back-to-back wins this weekend. The 3/1 you can get on Norwich is a reflection of how well the Canaries have started the campaign, with the draw also available at 3/1.
West Ham to win and BTTS at 12/5
The Hammers are the favourites for the win, but Norwich have had a say in all of their matches so far, and even managed to get themselves on the scoresheet at Anfield despite their 4-1 defeat.
Haller to score first at 9/2
The 25-year-old French striker scored 20 goals for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt last season, and West Ham’s record signing will be full of confidence after opening his Irons account with a double at Vicarage Road last weekend.
