West Ham v Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips & Previews
May 02, 2017
Friday 5 May – London Stadium – Premier League
Tottenham visit the London Stadium to play West Ham on Friday night, looking to close the gap to Premier League leaders Chelsea to a single point. Failure to win would all but end Mauricio Pochettino’s title ambitions for this season.
Harry Kane was the hero earlier in the campaign, scoring twice at the death to secure a thrilling 3-2 comeback win for Tottenham. In this fixture last term, Michail Antonio struck early to give West Ham a 1-0 victory. That was at Upton Park though, and the Hammers are a different prospect at the London Stadium.
Slaven Bilic has concerns about a number of key players heading into this one. Last season’s match winner Antonio is a doubt with a hamstring problem, while Andy Carroll has a groin strain. Angelo Ogbonna, Pedro Obiang and Diafra Sakho are also doubtful for the game.
Things are looking a bit brighter for Spurs, with Jan Vertonghen expected to start despite a knock against Arsenal. Mousa Dembele could return to the starting lineup, while Pochettino has a decision to make about Kyle Walker. Kieran Trippier could play in place of the England international, who’s been linked with a summer move to Manchester City.
West Ham v Tottenham Preview and Predictions
With Chelsea facing Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday, this London derby is a game that Tottenham simply must win. All Spurs can do is keep up the pressure on Antonio Conte’s side, as they look for the Premier League leaders to slip up twice in their remaining four games.
West Ham have just a single win from their last 11 games, a run which means the Hammers are still not mathematically assured of survival. Seven points clear of the relegation zone though, they should be fine. Slaven Bilic needs a decent finish to the season however, which has petered out into disappointment. The hosts are 8/1 underdogs to record a surprise win over their London rivals on Friday.
The visitors’ form could hardly be any different. Tottenham are looking to win their tenth Premier League game in a row. Star men like Harry Kane and Dele Alli are flying, with both scoring in the North London derby last Sunday. This is reflected in the betting odds, with Spurs starting as heavy 4/9 favourites on Friday evening. If you think the Hammers can secure the point that takes them to the 40 point mark for the season, the draw’s available at 4/1.
Kane to score and Tottenham to win at Evens
Not exactly great odds, but with the England striker in such good form, this is a decent way to enhance the price you can get on a Spurs win.
Both teams to score at 13/16
This fixture is no stranger to goals, making this a fair price for both teams to score.
