Wolves v Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 03, 2018
Molineux - Premier League
Wolves look to bounce back following a surprise defeat to Huddersfield, but face a Chelsea side looking to re-establish their credentials. The Blues bounced back from defeat to Spurs by cruising through their Europa League commitments, before dispatching of Fulham.
The two sides met in the season before last in the FA Cup with Chelsea running out winners thanks to goals from Pedro and Diego Costa.
Nuno Santo will have to do without star-man Ruben Neves after the Portuguese midfielder received a yellow-card suspension against Huddersfield. With Jonny also absent, the coach will have to make changes to a side that has remained largely the same since last season.
Maurizio Sarri is also likely to make changes, and with Ross Barkley out injured, fan-favourite Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to start in central midfield, with Willian also tipped to get a game.
Wolves v Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Following a strong start to the season, Wolves have seen their form take a dip in recent weeks, with their league position falling accordingly. Even so, twelfth place, with 16 points just over a third into the season is a solid return for a promoted club.
Wanderers' position is unlikely to get much better following this mid-week feature, with the rare increased frequency of Premier League games more likely to take a toll on the home side than visitors Chelsea. Maurizio Sarri may be infamous for his reluctance to rotate, yet with the likes of Alvaro Morata, Willian, Cesc Fabregas and Andreas Christiansen in the squad, he will be able to bring in not just fresh-legs, but world-class players.
This having been said , Chelsea have looked a very different team without Eden Hazard on the pitch, with their top-goal scoring being used sparingly this season. The Blues have struggled to create without the winger on the pitch, with the out-of-form Morata far from able to carry the scoring burden on his own, and Olivier Giroud relying on space afforded by him by Hazard. Wolves will be hoping that the Belgian captain will be rested on Tuesday, which will greatly improve their odds.
The loss of Neves, who has been integral to Wolves' system over the past 18 months could prove as much or more of a blow to the home team as Hazard's potential absence. However, the midfielder's suspicion could hand a start to Leander Dedoncker, who has struggled for game-time since signing over the summer. With Neves offering a similar option to his midfield partner Joao Moutinho, fans have been keen to see how the young Belgian central midfielder add mobility in the middle.
Whilst on paper this game could seem a forgone conclusion, player rotations on both side could well level the playing field somewhat. However, with Chelsea players used to playing mid-week thanks to European competitions, the away side may reclaim their edge.
Loftus-Cheek to score anytime at 10/3
The Englishman has been in phenomenal form lately, and scored off the bench against Fulham.
Both teams to score at 4/5
Chelsea have looked shaky at the back this season, and may see some changes in defence.
