Wolves v Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
December 17, 2018
Molineux Stadium - Premier League
We could be in for a cracking game at Molineux this weekend, when Premier League leaders Liverpool face Wolves on Friday night. The Reds are riding high and full of confidence, but the Wanderers are back on track and should prove stern opposition.
Past Meetings
Wolves knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup last season, winning 2-1 at Anfield in the fourth round. Before that, the teams hadn’t met since 2012. Liverpool’s 3-0 victory at Molineux was their third in a row in the Premier League against the Wanderers.
Team News
Diogo Jota is the home team’s only injury problem heading into this game, after the Portuguese forward failed to reappear for the second half against Bournemouth on Saturday due to a hamstring strain. Apart from that, Nuno Santo has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
Jurgen Klopp still has problems at the back, with Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip and utility man James Milner all injured. Nathaniel Clyne impressed on his return in Liverpool’s emphatic victory over Manchester United though, so he should start at right-back.
Wolves v Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Liverpool bring their unbeaten record to Molineux, where Wolves have caused plenty of problems for the big teams this season. More importantly, the visitors are top of the table, and a win on Friday night will ensure they stay there for Christmas.
No prizes are handed out for positions at the halfway stage of the campaign, but keeping their noses in front of Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking Manchester City side is a real statement of Liverpool’s intent. The Reds certainly made a statement as they dominated rivals United on Sunday, and that helps them start as the heavy favourites here.
Liverpool are 4/7 for the win, which they should get if they play to their potential and take their chances. Wolves are no pushover though, having held Arsenal and both Manchester clubs to draws this season. They’ve also beaten Chelsea and Bournemouth in their last two games at Molineux, with Nuno’s side 6/1 to make it a hat-trick on home soil.
The draw could be interesting at 17/5 for this game, after the Wanderers’ performances against members of the big six. Wolves showed their character in nearly snatching something from their game against Tottenham despite being 3-0 down with just over 20 minutes left, and have won their last three matches.
